Today we came to Seville. It has been a huge day and it isn't finished yet. We took a tour of the Plaza del Toros (the bullfighting ring), went for tapas on the riverbank (Guadalquivir), headed up to the Plaza de España and caught a horse and carriage ride home. The students are out in the city centre now having 'free time' with Valerie and Parky. I am catching my breath in the cafe below our hostel. Sevilla is just as big and just as beautiful as I remember. I'm so glad we came here again, and I am twice as glad we are only here for the weekend. This place is exhausting🙃

I have been told I am not allowed to post the video of the flamenco classes, so I will respect that. But it was hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂 Today after our lessons we cooked our own Italian lunch in the Lingua-It cucina! For pranzo we made Spaghetti alla Puttanesca! After our daily lessons from 9-1 with a 20 min break ... we all went to a charming little Italian restaurant for lunch found by Lia. Among the regional offerings was donkey ordered by Ashton! Next we walked to the Roman Amphitheatre where we're met by Enrico for an interesting 2 1/2 hour tour of the Roman( 2000 years old) and Middle Ages (1000 years old!) The sheer no of artefacts and their beauty was quite amazing. Our word for the day is bel Vedere .... the view from the convent looking over Verona was fantastic! After our Wednesday lessons, students staff walked along the walls of the river to stop at Vesuvio Pizzaria then onto a fantastic 2+ hour guided tour of the Verona Arena, the 4th largest built in the Roman Empire! ( Can you guess the other 3?) Enrico our tour guide weaves history, social customs and role-play into his excursions. Today he takes us to the Roman amphitheatre We arrived yesterday afternoon in Granada and it's a beautiful city with beautiful weather and beautiful buildings and beautiful people. This morning we studied at our school, went home for lunch and then came back for a tour of the Albacyn. That is the old Moorish neighbourhood in Granada. It is a very pretty old neighbourhood with little streets and markets and bazaars happening all over the place. We got up to the very top and we got to have a view out over the Alhambra. This is an amazing city, standby for updates. We left Salamanca Saturday morning, and drove 2 1/2 hours to sunny Madrid. In Madrid we checked in to the 'okay hostel', no seriously, that's its name. The okay hostel more than lived up to its name by being quite excellent. Is excellently located in Madrid, just a short walk to the Plaza Mayor and of course from there it's just a short walk to anywhere. We went to a special Picasso exhibition in the gallery Reina Sophia which was enjoyed by all. But I think the highlight was 2 1/2 hours free time for the students to do some shopping in the Puerta del Sol. This morning we got up and had breakfast in the hotel. A few of the students went to the Prado Museum the bulk of us went for an extended walk around the western side of Madrid. We walked on down past the palace, through the Royal Gardens, up to the Plaza de España and back to the Plaza Mayor. It was a really lovely morning, the sun was shining in and the birds were singing and at 12 o'clock we jumped in the bus for a six hour bus ride to Granada. As soon as we got here we all realised that we were in love with the city. Granada is just amazing. Standby for updates. Tomorrow will be touring the Albacyn. Today we are Firenze! We saw ponte vecchio, palazzo vecchio, Entered the magnificent SMaria del Fiore( Duomo), the San Lorenzo markets etc etc. This place is one big renaissance museum... the Easter weekend crowds are amazing and so is the architecture and gelato. We are early to our bedrooms in a stately convent after a filling meal in a local restaurant. This morning Parky, Valerie, Heather, Teagan, Isy and I got up super early and walked across the other side of the Tormes River to try to photograph the sun rising and hitting the Cathedral at the witching hour. The photos (as you can see) are not quite the professional quality we had in mind, but it was a really fun morning, scooting around Salamanca before everyone else got up. We finished it off with Chocolate con Churros, the breakfast of champions. The Italian study tour group visited their sister school, Istituto Don Bosco, on Tuesday and met the students with whom they had been corresponding for the last year or so |
