After a quick class at Lexis Korea and some sad goodbyes we were off to Gimhae! We spent a few hours at our sister school JEIL getting to know the students there. Afterwards it was finally time to meet our homestays! There were icebreakers and cake to soften the awkwardness of a first meeting. On Saturday my homestay partner, Suji, took me to a traditional Korean house and then downtown for some shopping. Unfortunately Sunday was our last day together - it made for some very sad fish watching at the marine exhibit in Jinhae. I really just has so much fun with Suji and am grateful for her parents welcoming me into their home!
Gabby and my homestay partners wanted to go to a cat cafe but we arrived too early. About an hour or two earlier. To fill in that time, we went to get ice cream and watched ‘Joker’ but when we got back to the cat cafe it was filled l with people. so in the end, we didn’t get to do what we wanted but either way, we still managed to have a great time.
In the morning my Korean mom, sister and I made 김밥 and later found out that this was her first time making gimbap as mom always made it by herself. Yesterday in the morning me and my homestay family went to yangsan tower after that we went to subway station and meet Lisa and her homestay. After meeting them we went to eat lunch after lunch we went bowling. Then we went to karaoke. Today we are going ice skating and pet cafe.
On Saturday my buddy and i went to a dog cafe where we spent time patting and playing with all the dogs and having a drink. After this we went to the Lotte Department Store where we went and got Ddeokbokki for lunch at a very popular restaurant. Then my buddy and i went to JJimjilbang a traditional korean spa and we had a good time!
Yesterday I went to place called 창원. It is a historical drama set by the sea side with a walk surrounding the set. I then wen to a 석양 to try 삼겹살 for the first time. Straight after, we drove to a newly opened cafe with an exotic view called the Marinbay Cafe. After taking a short rest at home we then went to Lotte Cinema in 마산 to watch a movie together.
Yesterday I went to 상남동 in 차원 with my homestay 민지 and with Keely and her homestay, 지우. We had lunch, went to 노래방, went to a self photo studio, got gong cha and went to a board game cafe. After Keely and 지우 left, we headed to 민지’s mother’s restaurant for 삼겹살. Lastly, we went to 용지호수 and took a moving boat and saw the famous light up moon structure. Today we will go to an art museum and visit a dog cafe.
Yesterday my partner took me to Tongyeong Adventure Tower and after spending almost 2 hours there, we went to her mothers galbi restaurant for lunch with the whole family. After lunch we went to sulbing which was right next door and then we took the bus to a pet cafe. Then we went to this Tongyeong cultural experience festival thing, after that we walked around, went shopping amd then went back home for dinner and ice cream after. Today we will go and watch the movie Joker, have lunch and come back home to leave for Gimhae.
We spent majority of the day with our second homestay families and met up at GIMFL.
After saying goodbye to our homestay buddies and their family, we hopped on the bus to Tongyeong. When we reached Tongyeong, we got settled into our guesthouse. After that, we looked around the mural village in Tongyeong. The mural village had a long and amazing history. It started in 2007. Due to Dongpirang being one of the poorer sections in Tongyeong, it didn’t receive many visitors. However, after someone visited Tongyeong, they realised it was a beautiful place but it just needed more light. So in the end, they decided to clean the village. And wiped off all the grime and dirt collected from Dongpirang, being near the sea side. Then the walls were painted white. Once that was complete, they held a competition where various artists from all over Korea would paint their murals and the winner would receive a prize. The mural painting competition is held annually and has become a major tourist attraction in Tongyeong. After visiting the mural village we had dinner together at a Samgyopsal place, which was very delicious. I recommend you to visit the beautiful mural village in Tongyeong. On Thursday we had a free day! Due to the typhoon that hit Busan late Wednesday. This meant no classes! Some groups went out and explored whilst other groups stayed home and rested. Within our WhatsApp group chat, we were discussing whether or not to take a cable car up to the highest peak in Busan. Around 2-3pm we figured out the final details of our activity. It was not compulsory so only the people wanting to go went. There were 10 students in total who went. We made our way to Geumjeongsan/금정산 and walked around the bottom. After a little while, we then went up to get on the cable car. The cable car experience was amazing, by far one of the best things we have done! Due to the typhoon hitting Busan the day prior, the nature around us was clean, clear and fresh! It was truly magnificent. Once we got off the cable car, we went up a little more to a viewing point. From there, we could see so much. It was breathtaking. After spending some time at the viewing point, we had some traditional hiking food and then made our way back down. I highly recommend doing this if you get the chance to! |
